The Christmas season is one of the best times of the year to celebrate, share gifts and give happiness. Even if you’re at work, you still need to find ways to spread cheer, especially to your patients who might be feeling disheartened about being stuck at the hospital.

To help you out with planning, here are some fantastic DIY nursing Christmas decorations you can try.

1. The Christmas Tree

There’s no celebrating Christmas without setting up a traditional Christmas tree. Unfortunately, putting up a real one isn’t only time-consuming, but it can also take a lot of space. Instead of stressing yourself out, you can gather some (unused) gloves and assemble them as for how you would do a Christmas tree.

If you don’t feel like wasting your precious gloves, you can use empty vial caps to create miniature Christmas trees like the one below. You can create several pieces of it and display them on your station.

To make your floor more festive, you shouldn’t miss setting up creative holiday decors. You can re-purpose empty prescription bottles into wonderful Christmas lights you can set along the hallway.

Or turn a spare bedpan into a cute reindeer (make sure it wasn’t used beforehand!).

If you’re in a cardiac unit or the cath lab, why not show some love by setting up some ECG readings on your wall?

3. The Christmas Ornaments

Forget the shiny and sparkly Christmas balls and choose a DIY Christmas ornaments made out of vial caps instead. They’re inexpensive and readily available- just wait for your medication nurse to finish her tasks, and you’ll have enough materials to work with.

If you’re feeling extra creative, you can recreate these blown glass ornaments and fill them with anything nurse-y!

4. The Christmas Wreath

The Christmas wreath is a symbol of everlasting life. Make your station’s wreath a lot more meaningful by adding your own personal touch– or your station’s extra items.

5. The Christmas Gifts

Who could forget about the Christmas gifts? Being stuck in the hospital for the holidays doesn’t mean you have to miss out the gift-giving tradition.

For your patients, why not try out this idea? It won’t only prevent the spread of harmful bacteria, but it can also make them extra healthy and cheerful. Just don’t forget to include a personalized tag and a warm greeting!
